Bangor at a Glance
The third largest city in Maine,
Bangor boasts a fair share of the state's history. It once served as a lumber
port, and the Bangor Historical Society showcases how the city was in the late
19th Century. The Bangor
Symphony Orchestra is among the oldest community orchestras in the United
States, and their season runs from October to May. Take in Bangor's natural
beauty while enjoying the thriving community full of activities. For art and
culture enthusiasts, the Maine
Center for the Arts offers a range of entertainment events, including theater,
opera, and ballet. Museums in the area include the Hudson
Museum of Anthropology on the campus of the University
of Maine and the Maine
Discovery Museum in downtown Bangor. In late August, the cultures of the
United States are showcased at the
American
Folk Festival at the Bangor
Waterfront. Like so much of Maine, Bangor is a great place for outdoor enthusiasts,
with opportunities for kayaking and canoeing abounding. Biking and cross-country
